Welcome! Before you do anything else you should go to the resources page and use the information there to register with Google Classroom (our
online community), CPM (our digital textbooks), Khan Academy, and either Class Dojo (our communication and feedback site) or Classcraft (our classroom gamification site).
You should also familiarize yourself with the resources offered by CPM (College Preparatory Mathematics). This is the math program that we will be using this year.

My Teaching Philosophy
Teaching math is not about the numbers but about the students. I am teaching you how to be successful in life and I am using math to help you learn lessons that will benefit you for a lifetime. You may or may not use the specific skills that I teach you on a daily basis. If you are hoping to have a career in management, engineering, investment, science, programming, etc. then math knowledge is essential! Some math is all around you, no matter what you end up doing, and other math is more obscure.
I know that math can be hard or scary. First, you must be willing to learn language of math. Then it is just about hard work, practice, and the willingness to make and learn from mistakes. Everyone who has been successful in any field has made mistakes, failed, and felt lost at some point. The people who rely on themselves, remain determined, and use the resources around them are the ones that have the best chance of reaching their goals. I will always try hard to help you understand any concepts or skills that I teach and I expect you to be an active and thoughtful learner who asks questions but also takes advice.
Regardless, the mental ability to think logically, plan ahead, proceed carefully, communicate clearly, take safe risks, and problem solve are essential life skills that will help you succeed in all that you do! Math can teach these to you and I can help.
In the words of Jerry Maguire, "Help me, help you!" (I love movies and sports so I thought this was a fitting quote). By the way, if you have never seen this move then you should check it out.

You should have been given your parent portal information by the office or perhaps at registration. I will begin posting grades to the portal within the first two weeks and it is usually updated weekly (or bi-weekly) on a regular basis. |
